first fashion show (:

this past march i was a part of the annual fashion show put on by Modista Minority Fashion group. Modeling is something Ive wanted to do for so long and to get a chance to do that was pretty cool! I was nervous but it wasnt that bad, and I know if I can walk in front of people I go to school with and see everyday then I could definitely walk the runways in Paris and New York in front of strangers!

Lions and Tigers and SHOES!! Oh My!!

Being that first off Im a girl and second, Im studying to become a fashion designer its only natural that Im completely in love with clothes, shoes, jewelry, shopping in general lol. But since the town I go to school in lacks a mall, I have grown quite fond of online shopping. Not so much clothes, but shoes!! Dont get me wrong I love them both equally but I like being able to try clothes on before I buy them! Recently I came across one of my new favorite websites shoedazzle.com!! natural hair

Lately, or over the past few months Ive gotten more interested in the well being of my hair. For starters, my hair is naturally curly, and I have never worn it that way, except for once. And only a few people saw me like that. As a kid, my mom would braid my hair, and once I grew out of that I could always be found in a ponytail. If anything else, thats what Im known for. I never saw my ponytail as a bad thing and on occasions I did wear my hair straightened, but I only usually did on weekends, and special events. When I wear my hair down I feel like I draw attention to myself and then the questions arise "do you get perms/relaxers? who does your hair? what are you mixed with? did you get a haircut?...etc" Its gotten old, the questions that is, and I get irritated having to answer them. I mean, first off, why do i have to be mixed to have good hair? my feelings are that there is no one kind of "good hair" theres just different types depending on the person, and yes ethnicity plays a big part in that, but managing hair is just different for everyone. Second, not every black girl needs to get a perm, and I wish the mothers out there would educate themselves on that because chemically altering your hair is anything but healthy. In my opinion putting a perm in a childs hair is irresponsible and lazy! Yes I know moms work, and dont always have time to do their daughters hair on top of everything else that may be going on but would it be worth it if it was healthier? I have never had a perm/relaxer, color, anything chemically done to my hair and I love my mom for that. I wanted so bad to cut and color my hair when I got about 14 years old, and she told me that I couldnt do anything to it until I was 18. I will be 19 next month and have yet to do anything to my hair, mainly because Im afraid, and the other reason is that Im in college now and dont have extra time to manage my hair. So Ive continued to stick with my ponytail and when I wash it I blow dry and straighten it! Which brings me to another point..over the last five or six years I have had my hair straightened, with a flat iron, on a regular basis. so much that my natural curl pattern has been altered, so as a new years resolution Ive chosen to get away from that in hopes that I can rock my natural curls! Maybe this spring I can debut my "new look" ha. But, in the meantime I hope that all women, not just those "of color" can educate themselves more on how to properly care for their hair, in more healthy way! Second semester at KSU

This week i began my second semester of college and being that its thursday i have one more class tommorow and then the weekend begins!! All last semester I could not wait to transfer out of this small town that I feel is just not for me! But over winter break I missed it and could not wait to get back! It is true with some things, you know know what you "have" until its gone. But moving on....Not only has this week been amazing, but Im so proud of myself for making it to my 7:45 art history class because one of my least favorite things to do is get up before noon! But, sticking to a set bedtime has helped, except for tonight since its 12:37 am and I am up blogging. I finally managed to grab a job, after a year of countless interviews and no call backs! That has made me so happy and gives me a little bit for of an independent feeling, no more calling home twice a week because I need money, maybe twice a month? After all, it is only part time lol. The other thing I am super excited about is not having a roommate! It isnt that I WANT to be anti-social, but I have a thing with my space and the rooms they stick us in are beyond small. Since Ive never had to share a room when I was younger it was quite an adjustment when I first got here and did have to share a room, lets just hope it stays this way for the rest of the semester! As for next week, Im sure there will be quizzes and more homework assignments so I plan on studying my butt off! Because I will be getting straight A's this semester, I believe it. Ill keep you updated in a few weeks!

Here comes the bride...

I dont think in the almost 19 years Ive walked this earth Ive met a girl who hasnt thought about her dream wedding, some just long for the Prince that awaits her at the altar and others, like myself just cant wait to plan every little detail from the color of her makeup to what type of frosting will go on her cake. Not saying I wont be excited to marry my husband, but Im an honest person, and honestly, I can say I will be more excited about my wedding. i mean come on now, anyone can go to city hall and get married, but it takes a special person to not only plan a wedding, but make sure it is hands down THE most magical event the guests will ever experience. And special people, like myself, have already begun this process of plannin every detail. No, Im not getting married anytime soon, Im not engaged, hell I dont even have a boyfriend! And over the past few months Ive kinda just said whatever to dating and UNlike many people I know Im not freaking out over not having a date every week or someone to "cuddle" with. Then I get to thinking about what time of person I see myself with..and then a thought pops up...what if I never find said "Prince"...? The thought doesnt scare me, surprisingly, I mean not everyone has a soulmate..or am I wrong? I recently watched an episode of the amazing show Glee, and Sue Sylvester decided she was going to have a wedding a marry herself. Now at first I laughed for a while because it seemed so ridiculous but then I came to realize that the idea wasnt so ridiculous after all and I actually considered doing so myself. Call me crazy but yes, the idea actually made me think twice about it! I wont have to live with anyone else and worry about someone pissing me off..ideal right? Ill still have my friends and possibly family when I have enough patience every once in a while, if ever, to deal with them. Then again if you so called "marry yourself" does that make you a homosexual? lol Just a thought...

studying vs. partying

So the picture to the left is of my best friend, Taje and I on our way out for New Years Eve. And although we looked absolutely gorgeous that night(as do we any other night we go out), that will be the last night for a long time! We will both be leaving again to start our second semester of college which means back to the books! First semester didnt go well for either of us and I hate to say a large part had to do with us partying/hanging out instead of studying like we should have. And yes, we go to different schools but that didnt stop us from having fun! lol But reality is that college is NOT cheap by any means and loans arent your friend lol so this semester I am making a promise to myself to study on a regular basis and actually go to class everyday! Failure is not an option! And maybe we will have to wait until the summer to party together again or and hopefully this fall we will learn to balance studying and partying! But mostly studying lol and in the meantime look at old pictures and hopefully that will motivate us to get straight A's!!
